GARTH DALTON’S STORY
In November 1999 at the age of 45 Garth had a major stroke which left the right side of his body paralysed. He just started painting seriously, but being right-handed this was a huge set back.
He then started the agonizingly difficult task of rehabilitation, both mentally and physically. This was made even more difficult by the simple fact that nothing had prepared him for the very slow process of recovery.
It took five years just to open his hand, never mind getting its use back. After fourteen hours a day, 7 days a week at the gym, horse riding and cycling he started to make progress.
Garth loves the bush and its animals and set out to try and capture the spiritual and foreboding essence of the bush and its inhabitants in his work. He has to work on a flat surface in order to support his arm that still can hardly move. He only works with pastel pencils. He can also only work for short periods at a time as he must concentrate intensely, or the pastel will fall out of his hand, and this can be very tiring.
His work has been sold in America, Europe and locally.
